This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.

How it is calculated

  • Count the decimal places, then write the digits over 10 for one place, 100 for two places, and so on
  • Divide the top and bottom by their greatest common factor to simplify
  • Mixed number: divide the top by the bottom to get the whole part, and the remainder is the new top
  • Percentage = decimal × 100

To work with fractions directly, use the fraction calculator. For percentages, use the percentage calculator.

Worked example

0.75:

  • Two decimal places: 75/100
  • Greatest common factor: 25, so 75 ÷ 25 = 3 and 100 ÷ 25 = 4
  • The fraction is 3/4, or 75%

2.5 is 25/10, which simplifies to 5/2, or 2 1/2 as a mixed number.

Why your number may differ

Repeating decimals such as 0.666… cannot be typed in full, so the fraction shown is for the digits you entered. Enter 2/3 in the fraction calculator instead.
