Exponential Growth Calculator

Enter a starting value, the percentage change per period and the number of periods.

%

For example 5 for 5% growth, or −10 for 10% decay each period.

This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.

How it is calculated

  • Final = start × (1 + rate ÷ 100)ᵗ
  • Doubling time = ln 2 ÷ ln(1 + rate ÷ 100)

For a quick doubling estimate, use the doubling time calculator.

Worked example

1,000 growing 5% for 10 periods:

  • Final 1,628.89
  • Up 62.89%, doubling in about 14.2 periods

Why your number may differ

Real growth is rarely perfectly steady. Treat the result as a model, not a forecast.

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula?

Final = start × (1 + rate)ᵗ, where the rate is per period and t is the number of periods.

How is the doubling time found?

ln 2 ÷ ln(1 + rate). At 5% it is about 14.2 periods.

Can I use it for decay?

Yes. Enter a negative rate, such as −10 for a value that loses 10% each period.
