Calculation

Rates in effect: SST rates 2026: sales tax 5%/10%, service tax 6%/8% · JKDM – MySST ↗

This result is an estimate only. Check with your bank or the relevant authority before making decisions.

How it is calculated

Sales tax is 5% or 10% depending on the goods, and many basic necessities are exempt. Service tax is 8% generally, and 6% for food and beverage, telecommunications, parking and logistics.

The scope was expanded from 1 July 2025 to include rental/leasing, construction, private healthcare, education and financial services. Rental/leasing has been 6% since 1 January 2026.

  • Adding tax: tax = price × rate.
  • Extracting tax: tax = inclusive price × rate ÷ (100 + rate).

Results are rounded to the nearest sen. The seller applies SST; this calculator does not decide which rate applies to a specific item.

Worked example

Adding 8% to RM250: SST is RM20, so the price including SST is RM270.

Extracting 5% from RM99.99: SST is RM4.76, so the price before SST is RM95.23.

Why your number may differ

The seller may round differently. Your item may carry a different rate, or be exempt. A service charge can also change the total on the bill.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SST and GST?

Sales tax is single-stage (service tax is charged by the provider), while GST was charged at every stage of the supply chain.

How do I know which rate applies?

Check the receipt or ask the seller. Rate lists are published by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

Does the price shown include SST?

It depends on the seller. If the price already includes SST, use the extract option to see the price before tax and the tax amount.
