Tile Calculator
Enter the area, the tile size and the wastage percentage to estimate the number of tiles. Fill in tiles per box if you want the number of boxes.
This result is an estimate only. Check with your bank or the relevant authority before making decisions.
How it is calculated
- Area of one tile (m²) = length (cm) × width (cm) ÷ 10000
- Tiles = area ÷ area of one tile × (1 + wastage), rounded up
- Boxes = tiles ÷ tiles per box, rounded up
If tiles per box is empty, the number of boxes shows as 0.
Worked example
An area of 12 m², 60 cm × 60 cm tiles, 10% wastage:
- Area of one tile = 60 × 60 ÷ 10000 = 0.3600 m²
- Tiles = 12 ÷ 0.36 × 1.10 = 36.67, rounded up to 37 tiles
- With 4 tiles per box: 37 ÷ 4 = 9.25, so 10 boxes
Why your number may differ
Add a higher wastage percentage for diagonal layouts and many cuts. This is an estimate; confirm with your supplier before buying.
Frequently asked questions
How is the number of tiles calculated?
Divide the area by the area of one tile, multiply by (1 + wastage), then round up.
What wastage percentage should I use?
Add more for diagonal layouts and many cuts. The default is 10%.
Do I need to fill in tiles per box?
No, it is optional. If you do, the calculator also shows the number of boxes.
