Angular Velocity Calculator
Enter a rotation speed in any unit to see it in all the others.
This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.
How it is calculated
- ω (rad/s) = rpm × 2π ÷ 60 = hertz × 2π = degrees/s × π ÷ 180
- Period = 2π ÷ ω
- Linear speed = ω × radius
For the force on a rotating object, use the centripetal force calculator.
Worked example
A wheel turning at 60 rpm:
- ω = 6.283 rad/s, which is 1 Hz or 360°/s
- One turn takes 1 s
Why your number may differ
Values are rounded for display. Direction (clockwise or anticlockwise) is not tracked, so all results are positive.
Frequently asked questions
What is angular velocity?
How fast something rotates, as an angle per unit time. The SI unit is radians per second.
How do I convert rpm to rad/s?
Multiply by 2π and divide by 60. So 60 rpm is 6.283 rad/s.
How do I get the speed of a point on the edge?
Multiply the angular velocity in rad/s by the radius in metres: v = ωr.
