How it is calculated

  • Fuel per month = monthly km × L/100 km ÷ 100 × price per litre
  • Road tax, insurance and servicing = yearly amount ÷ 12
  • Monthly total = instalment + fuel + road tax + insurance + servicing + parking + tolls + other
  • Cost per km = monthly total ÷ monthly km

Work out your road tax with the road tax calculator and your instalment with the car loan calculator.

Worked example

Instalment RM800, 1,500 km a month at 7 L/100 km and RM1.99 a litre, road tax RM90, insurance RM1,200 and servicing RM1,200 a year, parking RM150 and tolls RM100 a month:

  • Fuel: 1,500 × 7 ÷ 100 × 1.99 = RM208.95
  • Road tax: 90 ÷ 12 = RM7.50; insurance: 1,200 ÷ 12 = RM100; servicing: RM100
  • Total: 800 + 208.95 + 7.50 + 100 + 100 + 150 + 100 = RM1,466.45 a month
  • Cost per km: 1,466.45 ÷ 1,500 = RM0.98

Why your number may differ
