Result
This result is an estimate only. Check with your bank or the relevant authority before making decisions.
How it is calculated
Final price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100) × (1 − extra discount ÷ 100)
Amount saved = original price − final price
Effective discount = amount saved ÷ original price × 100
Stacked discounts multiply rather than add: 20% and 10% make 28%, not 30%.
Worked example
Price RM200 with a 20% discount and a further 10% extra discount:
Final price: RM144
Amount saved: RM56
Effective discount: 28.00%
With the 20% discount alone, the final price is RM160, you save RM40, which is 20.00%.
Why your number may differ
A seller may apply discounts differently, for example the second discount on the original price rather than the discounted price. Check the terms of the offer.
Frequently asked questions
Can two discounts be added together?
No. Stacked discounts multiply rather than add. A 20% and a 10% discount make 28%, not 30%.
What is the effective discount?
It is the amount saved as a percentage of the original price, after all discounts.
What if I only have one discount?
Leave the extra discount at 0%. The effective discount will equal the first discount.
