Sunrise and Sunset Times

Pick a date and a city. Advanced: enter latitude and longitude instead.

Advanced

Overrides the city when both latitude and longitude are filled. North and east are positive.

This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.

How it is calculated

  • Solar declination and the equation of time from the day of the year
  • Hour angle for the sun at 0.833° below the horizon (allowing for refraction and the sun’s radius)
  • Sunrise and sunset = solar noon ∓ the hour angle, shifted to UTC+8

For clock arithmetic, use the time calculator.

Worked example

Kuala Lumpur on 20 March 2026:

  • Sunrise about 07:18, sunset about 19:25
  • Solar noon near 13:21, about 12 hours 6 minutes of daylight

Why your number may differ

Hills, buildings and weather change what you actually see. The result may differ by a few minutes from timetables that use different elevation or refraction settings.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the times?

Usually within about 5 minutes for Malaysian latitudes. It is a standard solar-position formula, not an official timetable.

Are these prayer times?

No. Prayer times use official calculation methods and angles set by JAKIM. Use the e-Solat service for those.

Why is Sabah and Sarawak earlier than Kuala Lumpur?

They are about 1 to 15 degrees of longitude further east, and the sun reaches them sooner, but the whole country shares UTC+8.
