How it is calculated

This calculator goes through every day from the start date to the end date (both included), then takes out:

  • Weekends: Friday and Saturday in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu; Saturday and Sunday in all other states, including Johor.
  • Public holidays: the 2026 federal and state holidays for the chosen state, from the Prime Minister’s Department’s Federal and State Public Holiday Schedule 2026.

A public holiday that falls on a weekend is not subtracted twice.

Worked example

  • Selangor, 1–30 June 2026: 30 days, 8 weekend days, 2 public holidays (Agong’s Birthday on 1 June and Awal Muharam on 17 June) = 20 working days
  • Penang, 1–31 January 2026: 21 working days (New Year on 1 January)
  • Johor, 16–20 February 2026: Chinese New Year (17 and 18 February) and Awal Ramadan (19 February) = 2 working days
  • Kelantan, 26–31 May 2026: Arafah Day, Hari Raya Qurban (2 days), the Friday–Saturday weekend and Wesak Day on Sunday = 0 working days

Why your number may differ

Replacement holidays are not modelled. Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Qurban and Deepavali dates are subject to change. Employers set rest days in the contract, so your rest days may differ from the state weekend. Extra holidays announced after the schedule was issued are not included. Only 2026 is supported; for a plain calendar-day count, use the date difference calculator.
