This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.

How it is calculated

  • BPM = beats ÷ seconds × 60
  • Quarter note (ms) = 60,000 ÷ BPM
  • Eighth = half a quarter, dotted eighth = 1.5 × an eighth

For timing in general, use the time calculator.

Worked example

32 beats in 15 seconds:

  • 128 BPM
  • Quarter note 468.8 ms, eighth 234.4 ms

Why your number may differ

Songs with a changing tempo do not have one BPM. Count a steady section.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find BPM?

Divide the beats you counted by the seconds and multiply by 60. 32 beats in 15 seconds is 128 BPM.

What are the millisecond values for?

Setting delay and echo effects so they land in time with the beat. A quarter note delay is 60,000 ÷ BPM milliseconds.

How accurate is it?

Counting over a longer time, such as 30 seconds, gives a more accurate tempo than a few beats.
