Gypsum Board Calculator
Enter the area to cover and the size of a board.
This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.
How it is calculated
- Board area = board width × board height
- Area with waste = area × (1 + waste %)
- Boards = area with waste ÷ board area, rounded up
For the area of the room surfaces, use the area calculator.
Worked example
30 m² with standard 1.2 × 2.4 m boards and 10% waste:
- 33 m² ÷ 2.88 = 11.5, rounded up to 12 boards
Why your number may differ
Layouts that follow the framing, board orientation and windows change how much is wasted. Add extra for tricky areas.
