Cake Pan Converter
Choose the pan the recipe uses and the pan you have, then enter their sizes in centimetres.
This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.
How it is calculated
- Round area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
- Square area = side × side
- Rectangle area = length × width
- Factor = your pan area ÷ recipe pan area
To scale ingredients, use the recipe scaler.
Worked example
A recipe for a 20 cm round pan, baked in a 20 cm square pan:
- Round area 314 cm², square 400 cm²
- Multiply the recipe by 1.27
Why your number may differ
The result matches batter volume, not depth. Check the cake early because thinner batter in a larger pan bakes faster.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use a different cake pan?
Compare the base areas. Multiply the recipe by your pan's area divided by the recipe pan's area.
Does the baking time change?
A deeper layer of batter bakes slower and a thinner one faster. Check with a skewer from about 10 minutes early.
Does the pan depth matter?
Yes. This tool assumes similar depth. A much shallower or deeper pan changes how high the cake rises.
