Pool Volume Calculator
Choose a shape and enter the size and the average depth.
This result is an estimate only. Double-check important figures before relying on them.
How it is calculated
- Rectangular area = length × width
- Round area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
- Volume (m³) = area × average depth, and litres = m³ × 1,000
For tanks and other shapes, use the tank volume calculator.
Worked example
An 8 × 4 m pool with 1.5 m average depth:
- 48 m³, which is 48,000 litres
Why your number may differ
Rounded corners, steps and a deep end change the real volume. The water level is usually a little below the top of the pool wall.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate pool volume?
For a rectangular pool, volume = length × width × average depth. For a round pool, π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth.
What is the average depth?
Add the shallow-end and deep-end depths and divide by 2 if the floor slopes evenly.
Why do I need the volume?
To work out how much water to fill, and how much chlorine and other chemicals to add. Follow the product instructions.
